Objectives
Upon completion of this unit, the students should be able to:
use visual vocabulary to describe the elements of design in a work of art, including line, color, shape and texture.
classify traditional Chinese Ink Paintings, and identify the three components of image, calligraphy and seals.
compare and contrast Chinese cultural traditions with traditions from their own culture.
accept other cultural traditions as equally valuable to their own.
experiment with bamboo brush and ink techniques.
produce an ink landscape in the traditional Chinese style.
express responses to their own artwork through interpretive poetry.
develop skill in Chinese calligraphy and origami.
select calligraphic characters that are personally relevant for inclusion in their book.
develop a pen pal relationship with students in China
positively impact the cycle of poverty in China through participation in The Heifer Project.
apply technology skills to research Chinese art on the internet.
interpret selected Chinese calligraphic characters.
demonstrate appropriate care for tools, media and equipment.
